Vanessa Bergmark and the East Bay’s Red Oak Realty were competing against the best and brightest to land on the San Francisco Business Times’ 2017 list of the 100 largest women-owned businesses in the Bay Area. At no. 37, Bergmark is sharing list space with such entrepreneurs as San Francisco’s Rodan & Fields’ Katie Rodan and Kathy Fields.

Bergmark acquired the independent Red Oak Realty brokerage in 2010 and has grown the company into an East Bay powerhouse serving the distinct needs of clients in neighborhoods and communities around the area. Red Oak prides itself in having an authentic approach to developing relationships with both agents and clients. The collaborative environment encourages people to share ideas and information openly and focus on helping clients.

“I’m honored that Red Oak Realty was selected for this list,” said Bergmark. “It’s a privilege to continue to build this brand with an incredible group of Realtors and also inspire other female leaders. I’m proud to say that we have many women in leadership at Red Oak Realty and we see this trend starting to reflect in other brokerages as well as industry-wide. It’s a movement we are very excited about.”

Asked frequently to speak at both local and national industry events, Bergmark has joined in efforts by the California Association of Realtors to boost the presence and profile of women in the real estate industry. Dubbed WomanUP!, the initiative is designed to show individual real estate agents, who happen to be female, that the sky is the limit when they step into a broker’s shoes.

The East Bay community has also recognized how special the brokerage is; Red Oak was named the area’s best real estate brokerage by readers this past May in the annual “best of” Oakland Magazine issue. That’s at least in part due to the community efforts that Bergmark and her crew helm — from movie nights in the summertime to the Red Oak Opportunity Foundation (ROOF), which has raised more than $100,000 annually since its inception, for local non-profit organizations.

“At Red Oak we believe in giving back to the community that we serve, and we are grateful to the agents, clients, staff and friends who contribute to the fund.” Bergmark stated.

On November 10, 2017, the seventh annual ROOF Poker Fundraiser Tournament will take place; it includes poker instruction, a silent auction and live music.

“This is one of our favorite events each year,” Bergmark added. “It really brings our community together for a great cause.”
