I was born in Berkeley to a musician and teacher who became an East Bay Realtor. We lived in a funky rental that cost $165 per month in rent. The neighborhood was flat, friendly and kids were out playing until the street lamps came on. In 1979 our little rental was going on the market for sale and my folks decided to buy an ugly fixer in Oakland. For a few months we stayed at my grandmother's house as they "weekend warriored" it, bartering music studio time for construction labor.

Fast forward to 1999. I was a young mom and wife, and my husband and I decided to buy a circa 1951 major fixer in Redwood Heights. It was in the perfect cul-de-sac location, was blocks to the same elementary school that my mother, aunt and I attended, and it fed into my fervor for mid-century architecture.

In 2004 I left the restaurant industry and I joined the family business as a Realtor. I am from the generation in which true grit determined your destiny. I started with no leads, no clients and a fantasy. I built my business on the philosophy of working hard and thinking outside the box - grounded in service.

Things I hold dear besides my family: music and dancing - some of my favorite memories are dancing in the kitchen with my kids. I love good food - not too fussy, but simple, flavorful bites that are hopefully locally sourced. I adore good design whether it is something to keep me organized, a dining room table or a property with great flow. I also adore scouting and supporting local businesses.

How do I describe my unique approach to real estate? I love dressing uber casual as my day will often take me out in the field, chopping garlic, pulling weeds or dashing to the office. I also enjoy a good hair blow-out and sheath dress. A great movie, a concert or dinner is divine, but binging on Netflix or my favorite shows is heavenly. Snoop me on my Instagram, Pinterest or Facebook pages to see more about me!

Deidre helped me and my husband figure out what the heck we wanted in a house and neighborhood, find the neighborhood, find the house, get our offer accepted, advise us about remodeling, survive inspections, not freak out, handle issues with our landlord, and more.

Deidre was absolutely amazing in every way. She helped my husband and I discover that we loved midcentury modern homes, and helped define the attributes of those homes so that we understood what exactly we loved about them.

She helped us get realistic about our budget, and steered us away from expensive small homes, considering we have two small children.

She was cautionary, but not conservative or pushy, about certain neighborhoods.

She helped us discover and fall in love with an overlooked neighborhood in the Oakland hills.

She was extremely knowledgable about Oakland and San Leandro and the East Bay in general.

She has a great eye and that makes it a lot of fun to work with her.

She never pushed us into upping our budget, despite the fact that our financial limitations made it difficult to find the right place. On the contrary, she encouraged us to stick to our budget and suggested that we not even look at more expensive homes, even just for the fun of it. She was convinced that with the right strategy, we'd find a home that suited our current and future needs and provided plenty of opportunity for "sweat equity."

She pulled back the veil on one home that I fell in love with, and I'm so glad we didn't buy it.

She took my calls even when all I had to say was "I'm worried we're not ever going to find a house." (In the end, she helped us find a house in only a little less than 3 months.)

She never asked us to write a letter to the seller about our family. Instead, she verbally sold our offer based on the benefits to the seller (our ability to close, for example, and our seriousness about the neighborhood) and did a great job of it.

She has a great reputation for closing. That makes a difference in situations with multiple bids. A seller would rather go with a serious buyer who really wants the house and is ready to go. At the same time, I never felt like Deidre didn't have our back. If we had needed to change our minds for any reason during the inspection contingency period, she would have been fine with that. When I got a case of bad nerves, she helped us sort out first-time jitters from true reservations.

I could go on and on. We absolutely love our house and can't quite believe we got so much for our money. It's loaded with potential, in a great neighborhood, and it's HUGE. Deidre really worked some magic in finding us this house. Part of that magic, though, came from her ability to help us FOCUS on what we wanted....so that when she heard about this house, she was able to jump on it for us practically before it was even listed.

By the way, she's really delightful and easy to work with.

She is a gem. Call her now. And good luck!
Deidre is hard-working, extremely knowledgable, and tenacious. We were working on a tight time frame in a crazy market, and she got us into the house we wanted. She was in tune with our particulars and needs.

Deidre was on top of every part of the process - finding options, writing the offer, moving through escrow. She's savvy, and knows all the ins and outs of the area.

We also appreciated her personality: competitive, funny, warm, and loyal. While we hope we don't need her services again any time soon, we would definitely go back to Deidre, and recommend her to friends.
Deidre recently sold my condo in Oakland and I could not have asked for a better realtor. She's very honest, straight forward and easy to work with. Prior to listing the condo she set realistic expectations based on her extensive market knowledge and experience, and she quickly put together a sales and marketing strategy that would generate maximum interest from qualified buyers. She has a great network of people who helped prepare my condo (i.e. painting, miner repairs and upgrades, staging and photography) and she managed every aspect of the sale with expert precision. Her communication was excellent and she kept me in the loop every step of the way, always providing information, advice and feedback designed to protect my interests. After only one week on the market my condo received multiple offers, all of which were above the asking price. From pre-listing through escrow Deidre worked very hard and always made me feel like I was a priority. When you hire Deidre as your agent she works 100% for you with absolutely no conflict of interest.
To put it simply, Deidre Joyner's services are awesome. My siblings and I (there are 7 of us) became heir to my parents home in early Dec. 2013. In Jan 2014 we hired Deidre to take us thru the unfamiliar waters of selling my parent's home. After meeting with my siblings Deidre made numerous suggestions to improve the marketability for selling the house which was built in the 70's. For some of my siblings, the suggestions didn't prove to be to readily acceptable. Not wanting to change and accept her exceptional ability to know just how to prep a house to sale and her overall successful experience seemed to be the problem. After a bit of push back from some of the siblings all of them "got on board" with her suggestions, such as paint the double front entry doors from natural oak to red, redo, update, the kitchen cabinets, remove the overhead cabinets to open up the kitchen and family room area, oh yes the 70's lava rock had to be painted, from dark brown shades to a bone shade and re-landscape the front yard using black bark. Deidre assured us her suggested changes would modernized the house and make it more appealing to buyers. Admittedly, dealing with 7 sellers is not an ideal situation but believe me if anybody could handle it with grace, professionalism, patience and understanding it proved to be Deidre. After implementing the changes Deidre suggested as well as the staging of our house the house showed stunningly. In addition, as an extra she set-up a website just for the house and added the history of the house along with photos of my parents and their grandchildren during the building of the house. A note my dad had the house built for the ground up. Deidre's communication is effective and she walks you through all aspect of the process. Even while out of the state for a brief period with her daughter she stayed in constant communication with us. We, the 7 siblings, are pleased to say that after approx. 3 weeks on the market we received the offer we were waiting for and the house sold for a very competitive asking price. There is no question in mind as to why Deidre is one of the top sellers in the industry, clearly see knows her stuff when it comes to real estate....I think it is in her DNA.
We HIGHLY recommend Deidre Joyner and had a great experience buying a home with her! She really is an expert in the real estate market, and helped us get the first home we made an offer on with her insight and market sense! She's well-connected and was able to recommend great people for inspections, foundation work, etc. Not only is she a great professional, but she's friendly and caring, as well. She's followed up with us multiple times to see how we're liking the house and if we need any suggestions or recommendations. She even helped us assess the value of a family member's house and gave us great advice on that situation without asking anything in return.

We had heard that buying a house would be stressful, but with Deidre, it was an all-around great experience, and we are so glad that she was recommended to us!
There is a reason Deidre is one of the top realtors in the East Bay: she is kind, professional, available, tenacious, thorough, honest, and approaches her work as if she is buying or selling a home for her own family. We worked with Deidre as first time home buyers with little knowledge of how the process worked. Deidre is a seasoned agent, but she still understands the perspective of first time buyers. She is able to draw on her years of experience to offer analogous situations to your own, and her previous experience is a huge advantage in weighing options. Deidre will also challenge you with questions and ideas that make you consider what you value most, which is critical in the home-buying process. You can tell Deidre genuinely loves working with her clients.

We were told by family and friends that buying a house would be a stressful, painful roller coaster. While there were certainly ups and downs due to a very competitive market, Deidre's long-game perspective and open communication made it feel smooth and manageable. Deidre was always available, and she never made us feel like we were taking up too much of her time. I really do not know how she does it all! I recommend Deidre wholeheartedly and will work with her again if the opportunity arises. For now, we are ecstatic to be settling into our new home and, in all likelihood, would not be living here if we hadn't been fortunate enough to work with Deidre.
Deidre did a fantastic job. She didn't care about getting us in a house quickly (we were not in a rush), she cared about getting us the right house. She didn't sugarcoat the market or any homes that we walked through with her. She was always available to answer questions big and small. With her help, we had a good understanding of the market, and figured out what our top priorities were, and where we were willing to give. Deidre gets our full recommendation.
When we decided to sell our house in Redwood Heights, Deidre was our 1st choice as a selling agent. She was warm, highly professional, knew the Redwood Heights market inside out, and most importantly understood the challenges of selling a home while also managing a family with small children and working full time! She made the selling process less invasive and tailored everything to our needs. We always had confidence that she had our best interests at heart, and she fulfilled our expectations as a great seller's agent. I highly recommend Deidre and the Red Oak Team. If we were to purchase another home in Oakland, she would also be our 1st choice as buyer's agent too.
