About the Architecture of this Area:
Numerous examples of works of Berkeley's most prominent architects can be found in this neighborhood: Bernard Maybeck designed Rose Walk itself, and Henry Gutterson designed the complex of homes surrounding it. William Wurster developed Greenwood Common which is just around the corner. Within the neighboring streets are numerous homes from Berkeley's rich architectural heritage, including Julia Morgan, John Hudson Thomas, Walter Ratcliff and Ernest Coxhead. Many further examples of works by Maybeck can be found further up Buena Vista, including the Sack House, the Lawson House and Temple of Wings. A summary of homes in this area may be seen in this summary of the BAHA tour that focused on this location in 2014.

A letter from the Sellers to Prospective Buyers:
We’ve thoroughly enjoyed our sojourn at 2577 Rose St., just above the historic Rose Walk, overlooking a grove of redwoods, and adjacent to the protected area of Codornices Creek. Our walks in the neighborhood took us past an excellent sampling of Berkeley’s architectural styles, beautiful flora, and stunning views of the bay.
This is a very quiet corner but only a block from the 65 bus route (10 minutes to downtown Berkeley BART) and an easy 15-minute walk the to UC Berkeley campus. LBL, the botanical gardens, and the Lawrence Hall of Science with its wonderful views are not far up the hill.
We tried to make this space our own. As two serious cooks we wanted a beautiful and high-tech kitchen, and Margaret designed a very functional and pleasing space with abundant quartz counters and a high-efficiency induction range that perfectly suited our needs.
In terms of energy improvements we installed a new furnace, a more efficient hot water heater and heat pump, and central air conditioning. The washer and dryer are high-efficiency, and the washing machine distributes gray water into the back garden for irrigation.
When we moved in every room in the house was the same off-white, so we added color. And in place of an undistinguished brick fireplace, we ordered artisan tiles from New Mexico to make a warm hearth, with a gas fired insert that acts as an efficient heater as well.
We’ll remember fondly eating in the dining room or on the deck watching dramatic sunsets over Mt. Tam, the Golden Gate and San Francisco’s profile.
We hope the next buyers will enjoy their time here as much as we did.
